Today part of our family embark on a charity tour of Vietnam, they will be trekking through the jungle to aid in building a damn for the local residents.

The task is to raise money for a local hospice. If you would like to support St Giles Hospice in caring for all of our loved ones please sponsor the team at  https://www.justgiving.com/Natalie-Ellis7/?utm_id=25

We will thank you in advance for your support.

Story

St Giles are a charity offering care and support to people living with cancer and other serious illnesses. When my grandmother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2002 her GP referred her to St Giles, the support that they gave over the 11 years was invaluable, not just to my Nan but also my Grandad. When my Grandad was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer in 2012,  the support was there for them both. They both felt very comforted in the knowledge that when the inevitable time came, they would be able to spend their final weeks and days being cared for by St Giles in the Compassus Centre. My Nan lost her battle in November 2013, the care and comfort that the staff gave  my Nan was incredible, nothing was too much trouble. That care was also extended to the rest of the family in so many different ways, ranging from keeping us informed, to the simple things like offering to make us tea or just giving a hug. Following my Nan's death my Grandad continued to benefit from St Giles's care via the Day Hospice. He found great comfort being amongst people that not only knew Nan but also showed understanding of his own battle against cancer. The time came all too soon for him to be back in the Compassus Centre but this time he was the patient not the visitor. He was reunited with his beloved wife in May 2014, just six months after Nan's death.

My Mum and Step Father are taking part in the St Giles Vietnam Trek, not just for themselves but on behalf of my Nan and Grandad, Cynthia and Ian Ewan, to say thank you. They are hoping to raise a minimum sum of £8000 between us so that other families can continue to benefit from this amazing charity.

Trekking through the Vietnamese jungle, staying in the homes of the villagers who will provide us with overnight accommodation and food, and also spending 2 days helping with a community project will be a challenging adventure which they are looking forward to! For once they will be travelling light as the only shoes they will need will be their walking boots and there will be nowhere to plug in a hairdryer or straighteners!!

Please support us in helping to fund raise for this charity that gives so much to patients and their families when they need it most. We know that 1 in 3 of us will be touched by hospice care, whether this is via a family member, yourself or a friend so your support will help to ensure that St Giles can continue with their commitment in offering this care in the future.
